Why constitutional AI needs deterministic contracts

aiprotoforgearchitecture

ProtoForge separates what AI is permitted to do from what it is never permitted to do — and enforces this at the system level, not the prompt level.

Every piece of legal text comes from a pre-approved clause library. Assembly is deterministic. A cryptographic audit trail records every decision. The AI can select, explain, and validate clauses — but it cannot generate legal text.

This distinction matters because prompt-level guardrails fail under adversarial conditions. System-level constraints don't. When you're generating contracts that govern real money and real rights, 'usually works' isn't good enough.
